Pepsi to buy Poppi prebiotic soda
In a move to broaden its portfolio, Pepsi will purchase Poppi, a prebiotic soda brand that has gained in popularity over the last several years, for nearly $2 billion, which further drove its shares upwards.
A combination of greater awareness around health and nutrition, changing consumer preferences, and economic conditions such as inflation have all played a role in the diversification of Pepsi and its rivals’ portfolios. At a time when soda consumption is on a downward trend, prebiotic sodas like Poppi promise to satiate people’s thirst for flavoured beverages with fewer calories, less sugar, added fiber, and all the flavour while promoting improved gut health.

New Canadian immigration measures support construction
A series of groundbreaking immigration measures have been announced by the Honourable Marc Miller, Canada’s Minster of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan to address immediate workforce needs in the construction industry that will support the sector’s long-term growth.
The move comes at a time when the demand for housing is at an all-time high, with a housing crisis that is being heightened by labor shortages, slowing critical infrastructure projects, and a trade war with the U.S. and other trade partners. According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Canada needs to build 3.5 million additional homes by 2030 to address affordability and supply issues.

BYD develops five-minute EV battery charger
Shares of BYD Co., a Chinese automaker, jumped to record levels after it released a lineup of electric vehicles that it claims will charge almost as fast as the time it takes to fuel a regular car with a combustion engine. Its new battery and charging system were tested on its new Han L sedan, which proved capable of a range of around 400 kilometers (249 miles) in five minutes of charge.
The new technology should be available next month, with the first equipped vehicles being the Han L sedan and the Tang L sport utility vehicle. BYD will build more than 4,000 charging stations designed to accommodate the new technology. The new EV platform will allow cars to reach a speed of 100 kilometers per hour in two seconds.
