Whitecap and Veren agree to $15B deal
Calgary-based Whitecap Resources Inc. and Veren Inc. will join forces to become the seventh-largest Canadian oil company and a leading light oil and condensate producer by production in the Montney and Duvernay shale regions.
The $15 billion all-share deal, inclusive of net debt, has received shareholder approval from both companies. While 99.8 percent of Veren shareholders were in favour of the deal, 88.7 percent of Whitecap investors were on board. As outlined in the deal, Veren shareholders will receive 1.05 common shares of Whitecap for each common Veren share.

Line 5 permitting timeline announced
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced a new, shorter timeline for the planned environmental review of the Line 5 tunnel project, the first time-specific details about the project that have been announced.
The environmental review has been expedited under a national energy emergency declared by President Trump and as such the project could be permitted by the fall, months earlier than expected. The draft environmental review will be released by the Army Corps on May 30, at which point the public can comment, though under the new timeline that comment period has been shorted to 30 days from 60, a move that has been criticized for undermining public input.

Epicor tech solution treats CO₂ equivalent as currency
In seeking a simplified approach to environmental accountability in manufacturing, Epicor, an industry-specific enterprise software provider, has devised a patent-pending Carbon Cost Rollup solution within its Epicor Kinetic offering, the Epicor Industry ERP Cloud purpose-built for manufacturing operations. The offering is an adaptation of established “cost rollup” methods from standard costing systems that apply to carbon tracking by treating carbon dioxide emissions as a currency, which enables business leaders to calculate compliance reporting with a high degree of certainty.
“Through feedback from our Customer Advisory Board members, it became clear there was a need for a simplified approach to environmental accountability and reporting in the manufacturing sector,” Epicor Group Vice President Kerrie Jordan said.
